5 items you NEED for pumping & breastfeeding

By Anna Rademaker, IBCLC, LMT | Sacred Mama Denver

As a mama of two babes myself- I get it— the world wants you to buy more and more crap!

But what do you actually NEED- honestly, very little! But, there are some real game changers for convenience- and afterall- you just made a human— you deserve a little something :)

5 Pumping Tools That Help New Mamas

(assuming you already have your pump)

  1. Hands-free pumping bra – Total game-changer for multitasking

  2. Correctly-sized flanges – Too small or too big can cause pain and reduce output

(as your IBCLC I can help you figure out your ideal size!!)

  3. Milk collection cups or silicone pumps (like Haakaa) – Easy ways to catch letdown

  4. Cooler bag and ice packs – For on-the-go storage (and honestly, easy to have for middle of the night pumping sessions so you can save on your zzz’s)

  5. Pump part drying rack – Keeps everything clean and organized (oh and those little bottle brushes, I still use ours for washing wine glasses)

5 Breastfeeding Supplies to Keep Nearby

  1. Silverette cups or nipple balm – For healing sore nipples naturally (mamas I WISH we had these when my boys were littles)

  2. Burp cloths or nursing pads – Things can get leaky!

  3. Comfortable nursing pillow – Save your back and arms (my favorites are honestly the stuffed animals from IKEA)

  4. Large water bottle – Hydration is key to milk production (and you will be sooooo thirsty)

  5. Lactation log or app – Track feeds, diapers, and pump sessions easily— days and nights can get confusing- having everything in one place and easy to share method is key!
